slope

craig and i couldnt believe the calibre of cars driving along this road. it was winter, night, snowing, and we had pulled into a driveway just before the bend because we were certain that the car behind us was following us. it drove past and around the corner. then a bmw, an austin martin, a 1940's rolls royce (which almost tipped over from taking the turn too fast) ...i couldnt believe people were spoiled enough that they could afford to drive these cars in such distasteful weather.

adjacent from the turn was the hill that went down to the social club chalet. craig drove down the raod with his knee while he tried to roll his blunt. he handed me a fistfull of tobacco from the cigar and it was falling all over the seat. a cop car was passing us on the left and i tried to alert craigs attention to it but he didn't seem to care.

we parked in the lot at the bottom of the hill, craig smoked his stuff and i threw my camera in the trunk for safe keeping.

the chalet was terribly european for a US social club. everyone was american but insisted on trying out there half-assed french and scandinavian accents. when i went to grab a backgammon board from the wall in the den i was asked to see my membership, which of course i didnt have. accross the room a "member" asked if i could play. ..."well, a little, perhaps you could have a game with me so i could brush up on my knowledge of the game?" I didnt want to offer a wager right from the start, i figured i would throw in one game and then hit him with a bet. However, he declined saying that he was due to play a few matches with his local buddies shortly and declined my offer to join them.

when choosing accomodations at the chalet you used little cut-out pieces of paper with printed "room" graphics on them which you would place in relation to the the graphic of the actual chalet which was printed out on a large white piece of bristol board.

My inital choice was for a room right off of the chalet with two large double beds. I noticed that the price changed right on the paper in realtime as you moved the pieces of paper around. having the room right next to the chalet with the two large double beds fed out a cost of 368 american dollars. downgrading to the two single beds in a slightly smaller room which was detached from the chalet only rang in at 198 american dollars. craig seemed fine with that.
