gnoll's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- dim sum sometimes you dont really pay attention to who you're with. it was someone, or perhaps a couple of someones. it wasn't the pacific mall but it had that feel, and we were outside. walking back to my place to watch a movie. now people were there, danny, chris, colin, a couple of others i think. they were all looking for snack items for later. i got sidetracked checking out the steamed pork and chicken buns and finally decided on some shrink wrapped mixed dim sum pack. it was only $2.68 for a an assortment of 6, but i couldnt find anyone to pay. i walked down the lane where most of the vendors were, massive 6 foot high copper pressure cookers that i mistook for beer brewing vats lined the lane on both sides with intermittent bursts of steam shooting from the their tops. in front the vendors sold the soups tapped right from the pressure cookers. once i got to the end of the lane i realised tht i was so far from where i had originally picked up the dim sum pack so i figured i'd just split. when i hooked up with the others we were walking down an alley at dusk and ahead of us was a large gang of kids walking our way with rifles and guns. i knew they'd try to start something and there was no way we'd be able intimidate them out of a confrontation so as we approached each other i put on an overly light and social demeanor. as it turned out the kids were a lot younger than i expected and they were all carrying supersoakers and water guns. that isn't to say that they might have not tried to give us a hard time, they outnumbered us three to one, but my friendly banter had them all confused. i even grabbed one of the guns right out of the hands of one of the kids and began to soak one of his friends with it. at this point they even seemed a little nervous. what would i do next?
