gnoll's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- meat tube we were on spadina south of dundas and had no idea where to eat. co-ordinating between several people with different tastes in food is always a chore, despite the fact that all we really had to choose from was chinese. me and that girl (or guy) were given the responsibility of scoping a place out. we checked out some place on the west side. outside it looked like a typical place but the inside was essentially a huge rendering plant of sorts. we sat in a small glass room that was built inside one large room filled with clear plastic tubes, ducts and pipes of varying diameters. most of the heavy load pipes were about 2feet in diameter but many were as small as 4inches when the the korean guy hit the switch on the wall the room began to hum and hunks of meat started to push through the pipes. mechanisms sorted the meat chunks by shape and weight and would direct them into the appropriate duct. the meat chunks ranged in sizes from approximately 500grams up to 20-30kilos. One main duct/tube seemed to carry the bulk of the meat being sorted, a constant flow of cuts that resembled the thigh/rump of cow, not terribly bloody but relatively fresh. when a chunk with a large bone got stuck in one of the elbow bends in the tubing the korean guy toggled some switches to make the bend rotate until the meat was angled enough to find passage. I simply sat there, completely content watching all that meat pass through the dozens of tubes that snaked throughout the room, though i was pretty certain this place wouldnt work out, i dont even think they served food. 1:56 p.m. - 2001-04-22 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
