reel2reel

Last night there was a reunion show for Reel to Reel at the opera house / bloor cinema. He was performing with some asian house music has been and they were both looking a little tired.

I'd say the first failing element of the show was the fact that they were performing in a movie house. The fact that they left all of the flourescent lights on was also a bit mood draining. Being a movie theatre the floor was naturally filled with bolted-down seats, this didn't work well where getting the people up and dancing was concerned. However, the crowd didn't seem like the type to do so anyhow. There might have been a total of 30 people in the audience including myself and the handfull of people i dragged along from work. Most of the people just sat there being bored and probably waiting for them to perform "I like to Move it Move it", they obviusly weren't into all of the new freestyle stuff tha was being pushed on them. You could see the disappointment and frustration in the performers expressions, grimacing smiles abound. After a few songs the dude from Reel to Reel had to take a seat at the front of the stage for a breather. He sat there with his face pushed into his hands for a good five minutes while his performing partner stood next to him with his hand on his shoulder - "keep the energy up, we'll be back bustin' in a sec everyone - say HOOOOO - say HO HO!" "C'mon Say IT!".

Usually i'd laugh but to be honest i was simply to embarrased for them so i sat quietly waiting for an appropriate moment to leave.
