gnoll's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- transit alley A subway stop in Parkdale. Its arrival sparked an exodus of all the families and trucked in endless waves of dealers and users, and I couldnt remember whether we had in-and-out privileges before -- had we been walled in the entire time? Regardless, the neighbourhood really slid into the gutter because of it. Leaving the station we had to walk along a semi-enclosed stretch of street lined with store closures, dealers, users, and a thriving breed of three legged dogs. Some Jamaican lady urged us to head down this alley marked with a dead end sign, though she refused to answer why. When we turned back she pushed an upright vacuum cleaner towards and let it slip from her hand, rolling to a stop in front us. Inside the vacuum bag was her baby, cramped, crying, and trying to tear its way out. 12:55 p.m. - Friday, Jul. 25, 2003 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
